Te Whakahaumanu Ahurea
Empowered Cultures
Te Whakahaumanu Ahurea is a dynamic and transformative process for leaders who are committed to nurturing a thriving organisational culture and supporting the wellbeing of their people.
Rooted in the values of kotahitanga and oranga tangata, this programme responds to the increasing challenges of staff exhaustion, overwhelm, and disengagement. Through a blend of insight, strategy, and relational practice, it offers practical, culturally responsive tools to restore energy, uplift collective spirit, and build a more connected, resilient workplace.
Programme Overview
Laying the Foundation
Initial Strategy Wānanga:
Begin with a focused hui (meeting) alongside the Senior Leadership Team to map out the review journey. Together, we’ll clarify the kaupapa, surface key questions, identify those who should be involved, and co-design the timelines for the process.
Gathering Voices: Conduct cross-organisational interviews or surveys to uncover meaningful insights into current challenges and emerging opportunities. We listen deeply to the lived experiences, stories, and aspirations of kaimahi across the organisation — valuing every voice as a holder of mātauranga.
Making Meaning: Synthesise and analyse the collected kōrero to identify patterns, strengths, and opportunities. A clear and comprehensive report of key themes is then shared with the Senior Leadership Team for reflection, wānanga, and collective sense-making — ensuring next steps are grounded in insight and shared understanding.
Strategic Development
Collaborative Strategy Wānanga: Work with the SLT to co-design a strategic action plan. Together, we’ll set clear goals and create a purposeful, achievable roadmap for cultural transformation that reflects the unique identity and aspirations of your organisation.
Week 5 Check-In: Join a 90-minute online session to reflect on progress, adjust the approach where needed, and ensure the strategy remains aligned, relevant, and impactful. This is a chance to learn, adapt, and stay focused on what matters most.
Progress and Planning
End-of-Quarter/Term Review: Undertake a thoughtful and thorough review to assess progress, refine strategies, and define the next steps for sustained growth, impact, and cultural strengthening.
Week 10 Final Session: Conclude with a 90-minute online wānanga to reflect on key outcomes, celebrate achievements, and co-design a clear path forward — ensuring the insights gained lead to lasting transformation.

Kind Words from others:
What a privilege it has been to have had the opportunity for Mary-Anne to support our Kura’s journey of Creating a Culture of Care this year.
Mary-Anne’s high level of experience, knowledge, aroha and insight helped our staff to bring to the surface much needed conversations sharing vulnerability and demonstrate bravery.
Her dynamic style made everyone feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire process which enabled us to develop a shared understanding of the culture we wanted to make a reality.
Mary-Anne provided necessary tools that enabled much deeper conversations and clarity of the pathway we believed was right for our Kura.
Mary-Anne’s cultural connectedness and understanding of tikanga (appropriate to our setting) also enhanced our experience during the sessions we were able to complete.
The impact has been significant in such a short space of time, being able to repair as well as forge a positive shared pathway forward has been our greatest win. Every staff member has been left with the feeling of wanting more and can’t wait to further develop the Culture of Care plan we’ve begun.
Thank you Mary-Anne for providing us with the platform we so needed to enable this to happen. We are excited about what our future holds.
